HEY LOVES... I'm here again with another exciting and most requested topics from my beauty junkies...
SETTING POWDERS & FINISHING POWDERS... What does these two powders do really, are they meant to be used for setting of foundation inter-changeably, or is it just another way of tricking us into buying a product that is not necessary all in the names of TRENDS? Chill and Relax as i take you through the journey of what both of these POWDERS are meant for, and how to use each separately!
For the sake of those that may or might not know what
SETTING POWDER is, am going to be referring to it as SP hereinafter. So, SP is the process of locking in your foundation in place, to remove any of those excess oil that comes from liquid or cream foundation and to really make sure that, your makeup stays in place for a long time through out the day!
***Am sure most of us do make this mistakes during our makeup application, by just applying SP strategically in some areas of the face and leaving the other areas bare or untouched...Yes Yes i know, i've been there before, but that's not the right way to do it, when you're applying a SP, you really want to make sure that it goes everywhere, not just some part of your face especially for the super oily ladies.

Note--- For
Dry-Skin, you don't have to apply the SP over the face cause its just going to dry you out the more, but if incase you set your over all face, make sure you spray a Mist on your face to reduce the harsh/hardness and bring back softness to your face. But if you are
Oily-Skin, you might want to go a little bit heavier and make sure that, you really work the SP into your skin with a makeup sponge. A good High Ends Quality Brand is of a Setting Powder is Laura Mercier Setting Powder.

Laura Mercier Setting Powder
This powder feels incredibly soft
and silky-light on your skin. I love the super smooth application it gives, it
goes on evenly, blends effortlessly and provides great wear. Sets makeup
without adding weight or texture. The good news about this powder is, its comes in two(2) different shades, for a light and dark skin, another shade has been added to it for the sake of our beautiful woman of color who usually complain most times that the light one is too harsh if left for long period of time, so worry no more! So basically, it has two(2) shades now (Translucent and Translucent Medium Deep). Just get the one that sooth your skin complexion!
Sacha Butter Cup Setting Powder
A great alternative to Laura Mercier Setting Powder that is Semi-pocket friendly and works pretty well on almost all the skin color or you make your choice from the shades available, oh yea, it comes in three(3) shades as well, (Buttercup, Buttercup Light and Sacha Setting Powder which is colorless) So for every skin complexion there's a shade.... Its easy to apply, wherever you put this baby, trust me, its ain't going not where.. lol! Its doesn't have a camera flash back if used generously, its has a yellow under tone, which makes it a dope for Woman Of Color..

To apply the SP over your face, use a fluffy large point brush to do that... all you need do is, dip your brush into the SP, tap off the excess and set the face with the pigment on the brush... If you don't tap off the excess from a brush, either for eye-shadows or powders, the excess is going to be applied where its not needed, so always always make sure that you tap off excess of any product you are applying to leave you with the pigment, remember to always start with small quantity and work your way towards building up as you would want... cause its hard to blend off when you apply way too much product, so start little!
Large Point Fluffy Powder Brush
***For a Normal/Combination Skin, with a large fluffy pointy blending brush, apply the SP with a Press and Roll techniques when setting the foundation, but for Oily-Skin, use a Powder Sponge, the ones that comes in a compact powder, Reason is, Normal/Combination Skin doesn't produce oil as much as Oily-Skin would, so for Normal/Combination Skin, all you need to do is to use a brush to apply the SP to set the face lightly and concentrate more on the T-Zone area cause that's where the oil comes out from more, for Oily-Skin, you might want to go a little bit heavier to keep the system that produces oil dormant for a long period of time.
Small Eyeshadow Fluffy Blending Brush
***For the under eye area, get a small fluffy
eyeshadow blending brush just for that area and use a Press and Roll techniques for your application, becareful to always be gentle when you're dealing with your under eyes area cause its the thinnest part of our body and too much dragging can make it wrinkled or sagging on time.
FINISHING POWDER
Finishing powder is the final step after your makeup application. See it just like the process of sealing your deal with a client. Think of your FP as a final seal to your overall makeup appearance, e.g, The final effect you want on your nail polish, is the same thing as FP, it creates a final effect like Silicon.
*** FP are finely milled, when applied, they go in to smoothing the surface of the skin, they also make any form of fine lines (wrinkles) if there's any on the skin to look or appear less obvious, it smooths out pores.

Note: FP are not really great in absorbing oils, they are not really great in making a foundation stay put or to lock it in place, they work really better on top of foundation that has already been set with a setting powder.
Makeup Forever High Definition Powder
A good High-End brand is
Makeup Forever High Definition Powder... this powder is finely milled and its translucent so it won't really show up in terms of glow or matte, its just going to smooth out the surface of the skin, that's the Finishing Effect of it, it creates a super smooth surface on the skin and also blur out the fine lines if there's any. Its comes in just one shades that works perfectly for everybody, its translucent so, its won't alter the color the your foundation.
Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder
Another super great alternative for those of us that's on a budget, a Low-Ends Brand,
Black Opal Deluxe Finishing Powder... This Finishing Powder is a translucent loose powder that is triple milled and makes the skin feels and look silky. And the great thing about this powder is, it comes in 4 different colors (Dark, Deep, Medium, Neutral Light), so just incase you guys are wondering, its has a shade for every body, from very light to very dark
and affordable.
APPLICATION
This is not something you use a Press and Roll techniques for like i explained for SETTING POWDER, the application for a FP is sweeping it on to the skin with a large fluffy powder brush, all we want to do is, to apply it smoothly all over the face and not really add up too much.

Note: In a nutshell, SETTING your POWDER is the process you want to go through almost everyday if you wear makeup a lot, especially for our super-oily ladies, you want to make sure that you set your foundation with a SP WHILE FINISHING POWDER is meant to be used for a special occasion, like if you're going to be in front of camera, light or you want to look extra polished. Setting Powder is Necessary especially for Oily/Combination Skin but Finishing Powder isn't, you have to set your foundation before applying a Finishing Powder depending on the Effect you want the finishing powder to give you {Smooth/Matte, Silky, Glowy/Luminous).
